Takin' It To The Schools

On September 29th, Graham performed a short instrumental set before conducting a music workshop at Forrestdale Primary School as part of the Schools Alive program presented by the West Australian Music Industry Association. The program aims to expose WA school students to the contemporary music industry and give insights into its functioning for those who may be interested in a career in music performance or production. Graham spoke to the Forrestdale music students about technical aspects of playing guitar and his equipment, and also explained some of his thoughts about inspiration and the creative process. A good time was had by all, and the event was deemed a great success by the Forrestdale staff.

Return Of The Instrumentals

On August 19th at the Charles Hotel, Graham performed a very well received set of his solo work from Leap Of Face and Club Voodoo, supporting the Kevin Borich Express on the first gig of their Perth tour. After a lengthy hiatus from performing his instrumentals, Graham (on guitars and keys), bassist Jim Awram and drummer Troy Brazier tore through a set - described by headliner Borich as "blistering" - featuring a cross-section of material from the last two GG solo albums, such as the Star Music Award-winning Impressive Hair and the perennial crowd favourite, Club Voodoo's Dinosaur Bones. With an opening set from blues/roots maestro Mike de Velta, it was a night of classic guitar mastery. After the show, Graham was heard to say that it won't be too long before he takes his instrumentals on the road again, indicating more solo concerts before the end of 2011 as part of a runup to his headline set at the Fire in the Hole Festival in December.
