Graham's Live Rig (in his words):

When I play live, the core of my sound is my Mesa/Boogie Road King combo, where all the tones are created with the amp's four fully customizable channels. I use a 3/4 back 212 extension cabinet when I need to move more air. My effects setup is really quite simple, but it gives me all the sounds that I need to do a show.

Before the amp in the signal chain, I have four pedals - a Dunlop Crybaby Volume/Wah, a TC Electronic HyperGravity Compressor, an MXR Phase 90 and a Boss CE5 Chorus. While I use the wah and volume functions once or twice in a set, the Dunlop pedal's primary function is as a way of muting my input signal between songs when I change guitars. Likewise, the Phase 90 is used mainly for effect in particular songs. The TC compressor is left on pretty much most of the time, for both clean and dirty sounds. I like the way it 'pushes' the front end of the amp a little, tightening up the sound and adding a creamy sustain. The chorus is mostly used for adding some depth and lushness to my clean tones.

From there it's in to the Road King, which has two switchable effects loops. In loop one is my main toy - the Digitech IPS33B harmonizer, which enables me to reproduce up to three part guitar harmonies onstage. The IPS33B also has great chorus, doubling and unison sounds, and has been in my rig since the unit was introduced as the IPS33 (an earlier model) in the mid to late eighties. Loop two runs to a Lexicon MPX 100, which is used mainly for delays. The tap function allows me to change delay times on the fly, and the delay is great for filling out solos and adding depth where required.

Between the Road King and the 3/4 back extension speaker cabinet is a Dunlop Talkbox, which I use for the first solo in the tune 'The Vowels Of The Earth' and for the main riff in the Jac Dalton song, 'Suck Bang Blow', as well as a couple of ad lib spots during the gig where I may decide to throw it in. The extension cabinet sits on top of the Road King, putting the speakers a bit closer to ear level, and allowing the setup to easily roll on the combo's casters.

A simple, yet versatile and powerful rig that suits the tunes and my playing perfectly!
